How to Create a Video Tutorial

by Adobe Photoshop on Friday, August 13, 2010 at 12:20pm

The Next Photoshop Evangelist contest is in full swing! If you are considering throwing your hat in the ring, you may need some ideas on how to create your video tutorial.

Here is a simple step-by-step guide to create your own tutorial:

1. The first step is to decide on a screencast tool. A screencast is a digital recording of a computer screen that usually includes audio narration. You’ll want to make sure you choose an option that allows you to record audio so we can hear your tutorial. Thankfully, Mashable wrote an article on free screencast programs you can download. Read about them here:http://mashable.com/2008/02/21/screencasting-video-tutorials/.

2. Once you’ve selected a tool, follow the instructions to download the program. Make sure you have a microphone on your computer or a headset so that you can record your voice.

3. Next, take your screencast. Most of the tools Mashable recommends have standard buttons to record. Open Photoshop on your computer and use the record, pause and stop buttons to take your screencast. Make sure you’ve selected the record audio option to record your voice.

4. Once you’ve taken the screencast, Vimeo prefers that you save the file in an mp4 format, but it will accept any of these formats: 3g2, 3gp, 3gp2, 3gpp, asf, asx, avi, divx, mts, m2t, m2ts, m2v, m4v, mkv, mov, mpe, mpeg, mpg, ogg, wmv.

5. Finally, go to the Next Photoshop Evangelist Vimeo page (http://vimeo.com/groups/55814) and upload your video to our group.

We hope this helps! Good luck becoming the Next Photoshop Evangelist.
